Michigan Legacy Art Park Seeks New Board of Directors-Dynamos
Have you ever wanted to put your passion for the arts, the outdoors, and history all together in service for the state you love?
For over 25 years, our volunteer Board of Directors has been the strategic heart of our organization, ensuring our work delivers real impact to our communities, and our unique outdoor art experience continues to grow and thrive. You can learn more about our mission, finances and plans here.
As a nonprofit arts and cultural leader located in northern Michigan, we’re currently seeking energetic prospects statewide to serve on our Board of Directors for an initial term of two years.
We’re actively interviewing candidates, with the goal of bringing four new members onto our team to start together in May 2021. Interested? Send a note to director@michlegacyartpark.org — please share your contact information and a little bit about yourself and your interest in us.
We’re especially interested in welcoming candidates from diverse backgrounds other than those already represented, and who demonstrate the behaviors, skills and networks that our organization needs.
Prospects can expect a small but dedicated group of volunteers working together creatively to do more with less, united in the pride of the impact the Art Park has on thousands of visitors a year from around the world.

- Keeping our Board meetings and governance clear and simple
- Keeping our Board manageable and intimate with a goal of 12
- Providing you a Board Mentor to guide you
- Monthly “Staff Happy Hour” online to catch up between meetings
- Personal Tours of the Art Park to walk and talk about our plans
- Responding to your ideas with background, research or documentation
The Art Park has just a few basic requirements, in addition to living and working in Michigan as your current home:
1) Board members agree to contribute $150 each year for the costs of Officers and Directors Insurance, and to ensure all members are donors for purposes of visibility, grant reporting and applications, and to ensure best practices for the organization.
2) Board members agree to participate in four meetings per year, and as needed. We will make accessibility accommodations (virtual meetings and call-in options) as necessary to help Board members meet that expectation.
3) Board Members agree to acknowledge and review the Conflict of Interest policy annually.
4) Board Members are expected to utilize established organizational technology for participation and governance. Accommodations will be made for any that need assistance. For reference we currently use Google Office Suite (G Suite) for documentation and input, Doodle Polls for meeting scheduling, and Google Hangouts or Zoom Video for meetings not conducted in person.
5) Board Members will volunteer additional time to the Art Park through service on Committees, helping to staff events, trail maintenance for Stewardship Days, and ongoing fundraising during their term.
